Libyan forces make gains against Daesh in Sirte battle

Forces aligned with Libya’s unity government said they had made significant gains in residential districts of Sirte Tuesday as they battle to oust Daesh (ISIS) from its coastal stronghold.

The advance in Sirte came as an explosion in an arms depot near Tripoli killed at least 29 people and wounded dozens of others.

Sixteen brigade members had been killed and 60 wounded in Tuesday’s fighting, Issa said.

The media center for the Libyan militias issued a statement saying 34 militiamen and dozens of Daesh militants were killed in the fighting, with 100 wounded.
