U.K. pledges $80 million for education

British Secretary of State for International Development Priti Patel pledged $79.8 million over four years Wednesday for a new phase of educational programs during a visit to Lebanon, her first international trip since becoming minister. During her two-day visit to the country, Patel addressed the U.K.’s commitment to education in Lebanon. She also reassured the country that the United Kingdom will continue to support Lebanon’s economic and security stability.

Prime Minister Tammam Salam, Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, and Education Minister Elias Bou Saab met separately with Patel in Beirut. She also visited the U.K. Lebanon Tech Hub, an initiative supported by the U.K. aimed at assisting develop the country’s knowledge economy.
