McAleer’s ‘FBI Lovebirds’ Will Shame Media, Hollywood (Again)

Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney are back, ready to shine a light on a critical story reporters won’t touch.

You’d think “Saturday Night Live” would pounce on the romance between FBI “lovebirds” Peter Strzok and Lisa Page.

Their romance proved salacious, but not for the usual reasons. They carried on their affair during the investigation into candidate Donald Trump’s alleged ties to Russia. We now know their partisan rage against Trump as well as their stupidity for flirting via government phones.

How?

Their texts speak volumes.

John Solomon at TheHill.com captured the sentiment in a recent op-ed.

Their extraordinary texting affair on their government phones has given the FBI a black eye, laying bare a raw political bias brought into the workplace that agents are supposed to check at the door when they strap on their guns and badges.

There’s a ton to unpack here, yet “SNL” isn’t the least bit interested. Nor are most mainstream news outlets, covering their collective ears concerning the roots of the Russian collusion theory.

Enter Phelim McAleer.

The Irish filmmaker and collaborator Ann McElhinney announced their latest crowdfunding project this week.

“FBI Lovebirds: UnderCovers” casts Dean Cain and Kristy Swanson as Strzok and Page, respectively. They’ll star in a new play debuting June 13 at the Mead Theatre in Washington, D.C.. The play’s dialogue consists of the couple’s actual texts. The performance will be shared later on YouTube.

Here’s the official statement on the play’s crowdfunding campaign, which runs for 24 more days.

America needs to know the truth about the Trump-Russia investigation, which is why I have written a verbatim play called FBI Lovebirds: UnderCovers.

I have taken the actual hate-filled, sleazy, juvenile, corrupt text messages of top FBI operatives and lovers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, and combined it with the transcript of their behind-closed-doors congressional testimony to show how they, and their Deep State colleagues, planned to take down the President of the United States. This will be revealed on stage in the very words of the FBI agents.

This play will be filmed before a live audience in Washington DC and then released online for the world to see. The play/film exposes how top FBI operatives tried to destroy President Trump’s campaign and his presidency by starting the “Russia Collusion” investigation.

Team McAleer routinely embraces “Verbatim Theater.” The term refers to shows using direct sources, like court transcripts, over creative fiction to flesh out a narrative.

The same team used grand jury testimony to bring “Ferguson” to life. The 2015 play captured the truth behind the death of Michael Brown, a black resident, at the hands of a white police officer.

It’s a shrewd way to fend off those willing to dismiss the projects as biased. Why bother with such a method? Right-leaning art is under attack these days. Just ask comedians who dare to mock someone other than President Donald Trump. Or writers who thought the public might crave a fair and balanced late night show.

Better yet, consider the cultural fight against “Unplanned,” a movie which faced unprecedented attacks before its successful debut.

For Team McAleer, that meant surviving hostile media for their previous efforts, including the 2018 indie hit “Gosnell.” Several actors quit the “Ferguson” production after realizing it didn’t align with the progressive narrative on the case.

What is McAleer and company up against this time? One Twitter user already lobbed a death threat against the production. The far-left Deadline.com mocked the production, not the ghouls hoping for their death, while reporting on the threat.

Deadline.com shared the “FBI Lovebirds” crowdfunding news in a “just the facts” manner a few days ago. The article did label the FBI agents’ anti-Trump fury as “perceived,” which is laughable.

Then, perhaps as a manner of revenge, revisited the story by throwing decency out the cyber-window. The follow-up piece put scare quotes about “death threat” and said the context of the threat wasn’t clear. Here’s the now-deleted quote:

“Have the Capitol Steps open, lock the doors, and set the theater on fire.”

Pretty ambiguous, right?

Politico played the news mostly straight, but it assumed that only audiences who are pro-Trump will be eager to see the play. How about citizens who are aghast at the notion of a politically biased FBI?

It’s likely not the first attack “FBI Lovebirds: UnderCovers” will face. Swanson, currently preparing for her new role, shared this quote concerning the production.

“I Look forward to playing Lisa Page as written by Lisa Page”

That simple fact likely scares plenty of people in the arts community and beyond. It’s why “FBI Lovebirds: UnderCovers” may face even greater scrutiny in the runup to its June 13 debut.
