Carlo Ancelotti to ‘rest for 10 months’ after Bayern Munich firing

  • October 03, 2017

Carlo Ancelotti will not move to China or take up any other coaching position before the end of the season, the Italian has confirmed in his first comments since being fired by Bayern Munich last week.

Ancelotti’s Bayern had endured a mediocre start to the season and the former Real Madrid coach was fired after defeat at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, amid strong suggestions of dressing room unrest.

Ancelotti refused to be drawn on that, but confirmed his intention to take some time off.

“It’s best to stay quiet on that,” he told reporters at a charity match in Jerusalem. “I will rest for the next 10 months, so no other teams.”

With Chelsea’s Antonio Conte suggesting a return to Italy in the foreseeable future, a return to west London appears a distinct possibility for the 58-year-old, who won back-to-back titles at Stamford Bridge between 2009 and 2011.

Ancelotti looks on as his Bayern team are dismantled by PSG. The Italian was fired less than 24 hours later.

Chinese Super League team Tianjin Quanjian, whose side includes former Cologne striker Anthony Modeste, remains an outside bet. Arsenal have too been linked with Ancelotti, but a lack of Champions League makes the Emirates an undesirable destination for the three-time Champions League winning coach.

Bayern are yet to appoint Ancelotti’s replacement, with Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann, ex-Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel, Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, and former Bayern boss Louis van Gaal all believed to be in the running.

‘Assist for Peace’ in Jerusalem

Ancelotti traveled to Jerusalem to coach children for a coexistence group just days after being fired from Bayern Munich.

The former PSG and AC Milan coach is training Muslim, Christian, and Jewish youth as part of Assist for Peace, a group trying to open a sports center in the

Old City for kids of all religions and ethnicities.
