Wikimedia art database breaks copyright law: Swedish court

Sweden’s top justice Monday found Wikimedia Sweden guilty of violating copyright laws by providing giveaway entrance to a database of design photographs but a artists’ consent.

The Visual Copyright Society in Sweden (BUS), that represents painters, photographers, illustrators and designers among others, had sued Wikimedia Sweden for creation photographs of their design displayed in open places accessible in a database, but their consent.

The Supreme Court found in foster of BUS, arguing that while people were accessible to sketch design on arrangement in open spaces, it was “an wholly opposite matter” to make a photographs accessible in a database for giveaway and total use.
