Jordan Peele’s directorial debut was a huge hit with Get Out, and earned the filmmaker his first Academy Award in the process. All eyes were on what his sophomore theatrical release would be, and Us definitely didn’t disappoint. The story was dark and fascinating, with the cast required to play duel roles as normal characters, and their tethered. The most significant of these was by Lupita Nyong’o, who played both Red and Adelaide. It was a bizarre and stunning performance, and seemed like an obvious choice for potential Best Actress nominations. But Us didn’t fare as well at the Golden Globes as Get Out, and Nyong’o didn’t get nominated for her role. Instead, Best Actress went to Cynthia Erivo, Scarlett Johansson, Saoirse Ronan, Charlize Theron, and Renee Zellweger. Sad news for horror buffs.
