Europa League live: Cologne, Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim try to keep hopes alive

  • October 19, 2017

HALF TIME: A familiar tale of woe for the German sides so far. Cologne have proabably edged their game, which remains deadlocked while Hertha are a goal down in Ukraine and faded as the half went on. If Hertha can’t turn this around, their European run may be over before it really began. And the story is the same for Cologne.

42′  Zorya 1 – 0 Hertha Berlin

That missed chance wasn’t too costly, as Silas gives the hosts the lead. The Brazilian, one of several in the Ukrainian side’s squad, rifled one through the wall. Jarstein should perhaps have done better.

36′  Zorya 0 – 0 Hertha Berlin

Iury misses the best chance of the match for the home side. The ball fell kindly for the Brazilian in the area but he poked wide.

32′ — BATE Borisov 0 – 0 Cologne

Cologne can not buy a goal at the moment. A cross from the right lands perfectly on Zoller’s head but the keeper pushes it out low to his right. The striker can’t make anything of the rebound.

30′ — Zorya 0 – 0 Hertha Berlin

Hertha’s 18-year-old debutant Arne Maier has looked assured and combative so far in a fairly tepid game.

26 — Zorya 0 – 0 Hertha Berlin

A loose touch from Selke sends the ball out of play after some promising build up down Hertha’s right.

22′ — Zorya 0 – 0 Hertha Berlin

An early enforced change from the hosts after Svatok is forced off and Pryima comes on.

BATE Borisov 0 – 0 Cologne

19′ — Jojic cuts inside but, from a decent position, can’t do anything other than land one tamely in the keeper’s arms. Familiar failings for the visitors.

BATE Borisov 0 – 0 Cologne

13′ — Clemens has a pop from long range for Cologne but nothing doing.

BATE Borisov 0 – 0 Cologne

9′ — Cologne have also been on top in the opening stages but haven’t created too much. Zoller has looked bright for the visitors.

Zorya 0 – 0 Hertha Berlin

5′ — Hertha have started brightly Lazaro going close but no breakthrough yet.

1′– We’re off in Belarus and Ukraine as Cologne and Hertha Berlin look to get their first European wins of the season. The teams are below.
